Boundary Search & Dive Rescue is a volunteer organization which operates under the auspices of the Boundary County Sheriffs Office. Over the years, members have assisted the sheriffs office in many searches for lost hunters or hikers, in the rescue of people who become stranded and in water rescues and recoveries.

Members undergo regular training in many aspects of search and rescue operations, including rappelling, rope rescue techniques, tracking, water rescue and safety, first aid and CPR. Much of the training is presented by regional experts, and every effort is made to ensure that members of Boundary Search & Dive Rescue attain a high level of training before being called upon to perform their often dangerous jobs.

Anyone in the community may volunteer to be a member of Boundary Search and Dive Rescue by calling either the commander or vice commander and requesting an application. There is a small annual membership fee, and these fees and fundraisers held at various times throughout the year are used to purchase equipment and provide for training. Members who have special equipment, including four-wheel drive trucks, snowmobiles, scuba gear, etc., may receive a stipend for their use in a rescue operation.

As with all other emergency response agencies in the county, Boundary Search & Dive Rescue is called into action by the sheriffs office, and the sheriff or an appointed deputy directs and coordinates the search or rescue operation.

Boundary Search & Dive Rescue is managed by an elected board of members. In addition to the commander and vice commander listed above, this year's board members are Victoria Hernandez, secretary, Jeannie Borer, treasurer, Lisa Dinning, reimbursement coordinator and members Tom Bennett, Bob Lombard, Duane Stolley and P.J. Smith.
