Specialist
| Minimum Education: |
High school diploma or equivalent with experience in
computer operation, data processing and general office
skills. Education or experience in law enforcement practices
and procedures preferred. |
| Starting Wage: |
$12.50 per hour |
| Duties: |
Monitors and answers telephone, including 911 system, and
relays accurate information and pertinent information to
appropriate agency or agencies necessary to ensure a rapid
and effective response. Enters data on all wanted, missing
or runaway persons, protection orders, stolen vehicles,
stolen firearms and other information into nation-wide law
enforcement database, and provides information to law
enforcement officers in the field on license registration,
warrants and dangerous suspects to ensure officer safety. |
| Standards: |
Extremely high degree of performance and accuracy required.
Must be able to work effectively with superiors, peers and
the general public, often under extremely stressful
situations. Failure to perform professionally and in
accordance with established standards could compromise both
officer and public safety and place the county in a
potentially litigious situation. Must have excellent written
and verbal communication skills and a clear, strong voice.
Must be able to remain composed and professional under
stress and the ability to perform multiple tasks
simultaneously and with constant interruption. Must work
well with little supervision and have above-average ability
to gather information from multiple sources so as to render
a rapid decision as to the most effective response to any
given situation. |

| Hiring Process: |
- Application review
- Written exam consisting of spelling, grammar, number
categorization, vocabulary and radio and telephone
communication skills.
- Interview
- Polygraph
- Background investigation
- Psychological evaluation
- Medical exam
- Must pass ILETS/NCIC entry and inquiry test within
six months of hire and maintain annual certification.
- Must attend two-week Basic POST Dispatch Academy
during fi4rst year of employment and one-week Advanced
POST Dispatch Academy within 36-months of hire.
