The Boundary County Prosecutor's Office is tasked by Idaho Code with prosecuting or defending all actions, applications and motions, civil or criminal, which involve the county and its citizens, and to prosecute all felony and county misdemeanor or infraction violations of state and local law. In addition, the county prosecutor serves as legal counsel for the county, and represents the county in any actions which the county or county officials are party to. By statute, Idaho prosecutors are not permitted to provide legal advice or counsel to the general public, nor to represent or defend private citizens in matters of law in their capacity as prosecutors. If you are seeking legal advice or representation, a number of resources are available; further information is available through the links in the left column of this page. The County Prosecutor and deputy prosecuting attorneys work closely with all law enforcement agencies with jurisdiction in Boundary County, assisting in the direction of investigations, the collection and proper handling of evidence and other activities necessary to see that offenders receive fair and impartial treatment under the law and that justice is carried out under the law and in the best interests of the citizens of the county. The Prosecutors Office also represents the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare in Child Protective Act cases arising in the county. The Prosecuting Attorney is also an advocate for the rights of victims of crime, ensuring that restitution ordered is paid and that the victims of crime be made aware of their rights and assistance which may be available. |
