The
Boundary County Library had its start near the turn of the century when a group
of local residents, believing that a library was essential to a community,
gathered books and delivered them door to door using a wheelbarrow. In the
years since, the library has grown considerably, moving to various locations as
it outgrew its former homes. In 1957, Boundary County voters approved the
first Library Taxing District in the State of Idaho, and in the mid-1970s the
Library Board approved the construction of a home of its own at the very
entrance to downtown Bonners Ferry, where it now resides.
In
addition to offering thousands of books and an ample research library, the
Boundary County Library now offers audio and video tapes, magazines, newspapers
and even internet access to the people of the community. The library is
also a social center, with regularly scheduled events for readers and writers of
all ages.
The Boundary County Library is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays and Fridays and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays September through June.
Story Time for preschoolers take place on the first and third Wednesdays of each month, from 10:30 to 11 a.m. for kids ages two and three years old and from 1:30 to 2 p.m. for four and five year olds. Families are always welcome. Story Times include stories, finger plays, rhymes, songs and a craft.
The Lapsit program is for kids from birth to two years old and their Moms (brothers and sisters are great, too!). Lapsit is held the second and fourth Tuesday of each month from 10:30 to 10:50 a.m.
