Mike Weland, Boundary County PIO and Tina Wilson, Boundary Community Hospital PIO: Gave a presentation on what they can do to help other agencies in a disaster/emergency situation. Mike has been instrumental in developing the Web-site for the county and feels it will be the best way to get information out to the public in a timely manner. Both Mike and Tina have had extensive training and the knowledge to make this very successful.
Mark Haigwood Panhandle Health District: H1N1 update: H1N1 vaccination shipments will start around the 15th of October and distribution will begin shortly there after. Pregnant women, children under 6 months, health care workers and children and young adults 6 months to 24 years will be the first to receive the vaccine. A Regional Summit will be held at the end of August with all the partners to construct a plan for distribution of the vaccine. E-mails from Darrell Kirking will give more information regarding this in the near future.
From Dave Kramer: The Rail car class that was cancelled and rescheduled will be Oct. 3 from 8-5 at the South Boundary Fire Station in Naples. Please contact Dave for more information or to sign up for the class, 38 spots have been filled with 17 left. dkramer@boundarycountyid.org.
Jay Baker: Department of Homeland Security has awarded $229,000.00 to the Boundary County Sheriff to be distributed how the Sheriff wishes between the other L.E. agencies.
Linda McFaddan: 17 fires were reported and easily put out in the past couple weeks.
Barry Coleman LDS Church: Barry has put up a new radio tower that has vastly increased his ability to get messages in and out.
Deanna Galbraith: Hospital members are meeting with disaster committee members to review and update.
Emma Fields and Leatha Lockhart: Encourage all agencies to use the 1-800-853-2570 number to activate in an emergency so that funding can be utilized.
Also, a trailer that is fully equipped is available for use. Virgil Armstrong of Border Patrol has offered to put in a request for a military type tent that will sleep 30-40 people as well as cots for the Red Cross.
Kevin Greenleaf: Wheat harvest has begun, so field burning will start soon. They work closely with the DEQ to monitor air quality during this time.
Tony Rohrwasser: Fire Chief’s Association is working with Tor Wiggman to upgrade all radio equipment,
Rick Alonzo: A bad auto accident south of town last week, brought several of the agencies out and Rick feels that everything worked very smooth.
Virgil Armstrong: Operation Stonegarden will begin in January.
Alan Hamilton: Fire at Riverside Auto, while devastating, both businesses were able to save several records.
